Introducing CozyZip
Our first app is a free archive utility for the Mac that shows you what is inside an archive before anything is extracted.
CozyZip 1.0 is out. It is a free archive utility for macOS that opens and creates archives, and it is built around one idea: you should see what an archive contains before any of it lands on your disk.
Why another archive app
A ZIP can carry shell scripts, apps dressed up as documents, and paths that try to write outside the folder you chose. Most people double-click without looking. CozyZip shows you first.
What it does
- Preview before extracting. Browse the full file tree with names, types and sizes. Nothing touches your disk until you say so.
- Safety Check. Scripts, executables and misleading extensions are flagged, with a short explanation of why each one deserves a second look.
- Guardrails. Path traversal entries and symlinks are never extracted, so an archive cannot write outside the folder you picked.
- Staged extraction. Files pass through a staging area and path checks. Review the results for skipped entries or incomplete output before retrying a failed operation.
- Create and encrypt. Make ZIP, 7z and TAR.GZ archives, with optional AES-256 password protection for ZIP and 7z.
It opens more than 20 formats, including ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR, Zstandard and ISO.
What it does not do
CozyZip is not an antivirus and does not scan for malware. It shows you what an archive contains and blocks entries that are unsafe to extract, so you can make an informed choice. Archive processing stays on your Mac. Licence activation and checks, and app updates, use online services.
Get it
Offer updated 31 October 2026: personal use has a free lifetime licence with a verified email. Commercial use is US$5 once per person. Both cover up to three Macs and include future CozyZip updates, with the same archive features. News emails are a separate, optional choice. See pricing and current availability.
CozyZip needs an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. Its native Terminal and MCP tools are bundled with the app; our roadmap describes future priorities without committed dates.
